Building intelligent systems for real life.

I’m Samwel Peter Mmari—a software engineer, AI & data science researcher, and tutorial assistant. I design practical digital products that work within African realities: local language, limited infrastructure, real institutions, and real users.

Open to research collaboration, consulting, and meaningful product partnerships.

Research & innovation

Technology grounded in Tanzanian problems.

My research interests sit where autonomy, visual intelligence, infrastructure, and local usefulness meet.

Research direction

From academic ideas to systems people can actually use.

I am especially interested in low-cost autonomous systems, computer vision, edge intelligence, and human-centered interfaces for agriculture, transport, networks, and public services.

“A strong model is not enough. The full system must survive bandwidth limits, power interruptions, imperfect data, and the realities of the people using it.”
01

Autonomous crop monitoring & micro-intervention

Low-cost mobile robotics, multi-camera vision, edge processing, and targeted intervention for Tanzanian smallholder farms.

02

AI-assisted network diagnosis

Mobile diagnostics and rover-supported infrastructure inspection for university hostels, enterprise sites, and connectivity operations.

03

Swahili and low-resource AI

Practical NLP, retrieval-augmented assistants, and interfaces that make complex information easier to use in local language contexts.

About me

Engineer by practice. Researcher by curiosity. Tutor by purpose.

I began with practical ICT work—repairing computers, supporting users, and diagnosing networks. That foundation still shapes how I build: technology must work outside the presentation room.

Today I work across full-stack engineering, data systems, AI prototypes, deployment, and product design. Alongside graduate study at NM-AIST, I serve as a Tutorial Assistant at DUCE, helping students understand computing through labs, discussions, and projects.

My long-term goal is to create technology with measurable value for Tanzania and Africa: stronger institutions, more productive businesses, better public services, and accessible intelligent systems.

Local context firstLanguage, connectivity, cost, and user habits shape the design.
Build end to endFrom requirements and UI to APIs, data, deployment, and support.
Evidence over hypeResearch, test, measure, and communicate limitations honestly.
Impact over decorationA beautiful interface should still solve the right problem.
